How is Panchang calculated?
The Panchang combines five limbs — Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana — computed from Sun and Moon positions.
Panchang means 'five limbs'. It is calculated from the positions of the Sun and Moon for a given date and place, anchored to local sunrise (the Udaya Tithi rule).
The five limbs
- Tithi — lunar day (Moon-Sun elongation).
- Vaar — weekday.
- Nakshatra — the Moon's lunar mansion.
- Yoga — a combination of Sun and Moon longitudes.
- Karana — half of a tithi.
Panda Ji computes the Panchang live for today's date (or any date you pick) using a precise astronomy engine.
